BEGINNER 1
Group Qualification: Age 3 and a half years.
Syllabus: Confidence is encouraged through play. Aim to develop free movement in the water, submergence with eyes open, floating and simple travel through the water using arms and legs. Progress to gain confidence in watermanship skills and techniques. Swimmers will gain confidence on and under the water, begin to control and learn different propulsion techniques.
Aim: Duckling, Dolphin and 5 metre Badge.
BEGINNER 2
Group Qualification: Age 5+ years, water confident, able to swim 5 metres on front and back.
Syllabus: Developing the use of the main swimming strokes, introducing skills such as sculling, treading water and underwater swimming, increasing confidence and the different propulsion methods.
Aim: 10-25 metres Award.
IMPROVER
Group Qualification: Able to swim 25 metres with correct breathing.
Syllabus: To swim competently over a distance of 25 metres, in breaststroke, backstroke and front crawl, and 10 metres butterfly. Introduction to diving and turning.
Aim: 50 metres Award.
STROKE IMPROVEMENT
Group Qualification: Able to swim 50 metres with two strokes in good style.
Syllabus: To further develop stroke technique and introduce competitive swimming training including diving, endurance and speed swimming.
Aim: 100, 200. 300, 400, 800 metres, practice diving & life saving in deep water.
